LIVE ONLINE CO-WORKING MEMBERSHIP

NEXT QUARTER STARTS OCTOBER 6, 2026 ◆ TUES–FRI, 9–11AM ET / 6-8AM PT ◆ TUES & THURS, 1–3 PM ET / 10AM-12PM PT

A live co-working studio with Holly Whitaker

Join Holly for up to six two-hour co-working sessions each week, with live check-ins, monthly calls, and dedicated community time, designed to help you take baby steps forward on what you’ve been putting off.

Find structure. Make progress. Get unstuck. Be less alone. Become part of a community of people doing the same thing.

Baby Steps is for people looking for structure, companionship, accountability, and dedicated time to start—or keep—showing up for their creativity, projects, or everyday tasks. We come together every Tuesday through Friday morning from 9am to 11am ET, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm ET.

Bring whatever matters: a manuscript, your regular job, back taxes, exercise, email, art, life administration, or the thing you have been avoiding for six months or six years. Come when it works. Arrive late, leave early, miss time, return. You never have to explain yourself, you always belong, and you can never be behind.

Membership runs in quarterly cycles, with enrollment opening four times a year. New members join at the beginning of each quarter, so we have time to get to know each other.

Baby Steps is a women-centered space open to cis and trans women and nonbinary folks comfortable in a women-centered setting.

Baby Steps quarterly membership includes:

Up to 12 hours of co-working per week; 6 sessions per week, Tues- Fri

A typical session includes a breath exercise and then about one hour and fifty minutes of heads-down time to work on whatever you want to in the company of others, led primarily by Holly. Tuesday through Friday, 9am to 11am Eastern, with additional sessions Tuesday and Thursday, 1pm to 3pm Eastern.

Monthly community call with Holly (three per quarter)

One per month (three per quarter), where participants get to Show and Tell what they are working on, what they are failing at, crushing, doing and not doing, etc.

We also have one structured Scary Day per month for the things we avoid the most.

Dedicated community time

Each quarter we spend dedicated time up front getting to know each other and sharing our projects (literally, could be “My project is waking up at the same time.”) Our co-working room opens ten minutes early for casual hangs, questions, resource sharing, coffee drinking. Connections will be made.

A bunch of other people doing the same thing

Be less lonely! Be witnessed and accepted while trying to do things! Get motivated working alongside others! Share things if you want! Active participation not required; shy people welcome.

Your host

Hello! I’m Holly Whitaker, author of: Quit Like a Woman (PRH); 30 Days to a New Relationship with Alcohol(Audible); the forthcoming How to Be Lost Deck (Chronicle), and the forthcoming How to Relapse (Tin House/Zando). I publish the Recovering newsletter on Substack.

I’ve been self-employed, leading Zoom calls, coaching, and teaching online classes since 2015. I created and built a digital/educational behavior-change program used by thousands, and a practical guide to quit drinking that’s been read by over half a million people and is recommended by leading recovery centers and institutions, including the Mayo Clinic, Weill Cornell, and the Center for Motivation and Change.

Over the past five years, my work has deepened in a different direction. I’ve moved through a long period of creative disruption, struggling with motivation, procrastination, purpose, and showing up consistently—and learning, firsthand, what it actually takes to keep going when your old systems stop working.

I started using online co-working in 2023 to access body doubling (the practice of working in the presence of others to increase motivation, focus, and accountability), find connection, and create structure while working on a long and difficult project, and it changed my life.

I love holding this kind of space and sharing what I’ve learned as a neurodivergent self-employed perimenopausal author and creative in long-term recovery with other sensitive souls who are trying to both pay their bills and make beautiful things during this weird, horrible, and emergent time in history.

I’ll be using the time together to work on my two ongoing projects.

Other things about me: I live in a rural location; I am an awkward introvert who loves planting pollinator gardens, organizing drawers, and talking on the phone. My favorite things are gardening, saving things to buy on The RealReal, playing cards, reading, watching TV, jumping in streams, and doing nothing with other people who are also doing nothing.

Find structure. Be productive without hurting yourself. Be calmer and happier with your time.

What the people say about Baby Steps

I thought because I'd failed at finding the "perfect routine,” I'd be on the struggle bus for life. This program helped me see I'd caught the wrong bus. Instead of following a set route towards "productivity,” I needed to be curious and explore. But I also needed some guidance and other passengers. Holly provided both. Sure, I get more done, but more importantly, I'm calmer and happier with my time.

—MAGGIE RUSSEL

I went from 25k words in a draft to a completed 75k manuscript during this course, and I felt much more aligned with my own core values. I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

MEREDITH RODKEY

Since COVID and disruptions in my life, I’d been flying by the seat of my pants—getting things done, but with avoidance, procrastination, and isolation. Baby Steps gave me a structure I could hold onto without feeling overwhelmed. The co-working sessions got me moving, sharing my daily tasks made me much more likely to do them, and seeing other people facing similar struggles made me feel far less alone.

I started cooking and knitting again and completed all of my tax preparation—three areas where I had been completely stuck. I’m also much more willing to approach the things I don’t want to do instead of continually avoiding them. It gave me momentum, practical tools, and, most of all, hope.

—KATHY WEISSBERG

Baby Steps gave me a home for looking at my inner and outer life, with structure and zero bullshit. Holly’s combination of focused work, being human in a shared space, and a simple weekly focus made it easy to keep showing up. I discovered how much baby steps add up—and how much I had missed like-minded people.

—YVONNE LANDMANN

I’ve thrived since joining your first coworker cohort and learning just how effective that is in supporting me. I had no idea until I spontaneously signed up for your first offering last fall.

More details

What are the dates and times of the co-working sessions?

The next quarter begins October 6, 2026 and runs through December 25, 2026. Co-working sessions are four days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 6–8 a.m. Pacific and 9–11 a.m. Eastern. There are also afternoon sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Pacific and 1–3 p.m. Eastern.

Baby Steps will be closed the week of December 29, 2026–January 4, 2027. The next quarter begins January 5, 2027.

When are the monthly community calls

These happen during our regular co-working sessions, at times voted on by current members.

Is this a course? Is there anything I need to keep up with?
No. There is no curriculum, homework, sequence, or material to catch up on. Baby Steps is a place to come and work. Occasionally I’ll bring in a prompt, practice, resource, or idea when it feels useful, but nothing depends on having attended before.

What if I can’t start immediately?

You can start attending whenever. This is not a traditional program where there is any kind of catch-up work, and you won’t disrupt anyone by missing the first few weeks, taking time off, etc. People use Baby Steps more like a gym membership or other ongoing membership: sometimes they use it more, sometimes less; sometimes they go on vacation; sometimes they just don’t feel like coming.

Part of what we normalize here is doing what you need to do without having to explain or justify your behavior to other people. The people in this community are very good at holding space for cyclical attention, changing capacity, disappearing for a bit, and coming back.

Why can’t I join on a month-to-month basis? Or pay per use?

Baby Steps is a small, intentionally capped offering, and there’s a delicate balance between keeping it affordable, keeping the rooms at a workable size, and making the whole thing sustainable. Membership here is partly about access and partly about sustaining the space so it can reliably exist. A pay-per-use model would make both attendance and income wildly unpredictable, and month-to-month membership would create much more turnover in a community that works because people have time to become familiar with each other. In other words, the structure stays consistent so you don’t have to.

Quarterly membership gives us enough stability to keep the price reasonable, cap enrollment, plan ahead, and maintain a room that feels consistent without requiring everyone to attend consistently.

Does Baby Steps run year-round?

Baby Steps runs throughout the year in 12-week quarters, with one scheduled break week between each quarter. For the next year, the tentative schedule is: October 6–December 25, 2026, followed by a break from December 29–January 4. The next quarters run January 5-March 26, 2027; April 6-June 25, 2027; July 6–September 24, 2027; October 5–December 24, 2027.

Baby Steps may observe certain holidays, but will never observe more than 2 per quarter.

Do you start on the first day of each quarter?

We start on the first Tuesday.

What level of participation is expected?

You can use as much or as little of the membership as you want. You’re welcome to arrive after the start time, leave before the session ends, or attend only on certain days—you might prefer Wednesday through Friday, or Tuesdays and Thursdays, mornings vs. afternoon, etc. There will be opportunities for participants to share, but sharing is never required. You do not have to talk, share, or participate in any way you don’t want to. All offerings are optional, lurkers welcome.

Can I keep my camera off?

Yes! Although—here is my plug for how great it is to see other people doing things! Part of the point of this is body doubling and co-working, so camera on is encouraged, but also this is for YOU so you get to do what feels comfortable, and we’ll all support it.

Do I have to use my real name?

You’ll need to use the name that matches the name you registered under, and you’ll need to register under the name you use in real life (government or non-government; just the name you actually use); no aliases, usernames, fake names. First name and last initial are great. (If this is an issue, email contact@hollywhitaker.com). I’ll also be inviting folks to share pronouns, location, and what they are working on in their Zoom handle.

What do you mean by “community”

This is not a group coaching program, and it’s also not one of those anonymous co-working spaces where everybody logs on, does their thing, and never really knows each other. What’s unusual about Baby Steps is that it sits somewhere in between those two things. You see the same people over time, hear what they’re working on, say hi and share about yourself (if you want!), talk about things you might not normally talk about or things you always do, or notice when someone finishes the thing they’ve been talking about for six weeks or finally resolves that financial issue. In other words, familiarity builds naturally through regular interaction, not through shared personal development.

The social part is very low stakes; there’s no forced intimacy, no expectation that you disclose personal things, no emotional processing, and no pressure to turn the group into another relationship you have to manage. It’s a sweet spot kind of deal and I (Holly) work very hard to ensure it stays that way. One participant described it as “socially warm without being socially demanding,” which is exactly the point. We get the nervous-system benefit of being with other people without the social or emotional obligation that usually comes with closeness.

Are sessions recorded?

No. Baby Steps is a live space and co-working sessions are not recorded.

Is 1:1 coaching available from Holly? What about asking questions of Holly during or in-between co-working times? What can I expect in terms of support? What kind of interaction can I expect with Holly?

Baby Steps is a co-working membership, not a coaching program. I (Holly) no longer offer 1:1 coaching in any form, and this space is not an emotional processing space.

I (Holly) lead the majority of the calls, including our community call (Show and Tell), and I hold space for ten minutes prior to co-working, the first five to ten minutes of each call, and the last five minutes. I am the primary facilitator of Baby Steps, and I have one primary co-facilitator, Caitlin Schumacher, who leads calls in my absence and supports the room in general. At times, other seasoned members will also lead a call.

The space is casual, and during our pre-call chats there is almost always space to bring a quick question to me if you have one. In general, you can expect me to act far more like a participant, since one of the primary drivers behind creating this space was my own need to use it, and I do.

I am available via email for administrative questions; I won’t be available for non-administrative questions by email or direct message, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to bring questions into the room. I’m very present in the space; basically, what I do not offer is individual, non-administrative communication outside of co-working or ongoing one-on-one coaching.

Please note that I don’t address questions about recovery, relapse, addiction, or sobriety. I do not do that type of coaching work, and I have a very firm boundary around it.

How many members are there and how many people can I expect on a given call?

Membership is currently capped at 100 folks. Historically, about 20–40% of members attend a typical co-working session. On higher-attendance calls—like community calls or sessions near the beginning of a quarter—attendance can be closer to 50%. Expect higher-attendance calls the first few weeks of the quarter during introductions, and average to smaller calls the rest of the time. We spend 10 minutes before we start hanging out and saying hi (optionally!), and typically 10%-20% (usually less) join that; at the end of session, it’s also typically a smaller attendance. So: If you’re here in part to connect with other people and build intimacy and familiarity, there is plenty of room for that; it’s a massive priority of mine to maintain the intimacy.

Will you add additional times for different time zones?

The schedule for Baby Steps is fixed, Tuesdays through Fridays, 9–11 a.m. Eastern, Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-3 p.m. Eastern. I (Holly) won’t be adding additional sessions in other time zones.

If I can only attend the afternoon sessions (or vice versa) because I’m in a different time zone, can I get a discount?

Unfortunately, no. To keep this administratively simple, membership pricing is based on access to Baby Steps as a whole, rather than on how many sessions you’re able to attend. Members use the space differently depending on their schedules, time zones, capacity, and season of life, and the quarterly price helps sustain the room whether you attend two sessions a week or all six, miss a month or come every day.

Does my membership renew automatically?

No. Each quarter you will have the opportunity to re-enroll or skip. Enrollment for the following quarter opens first to active participants, then to former participants and waitlist, then to the public.

Are scholarships or discounts available?

Baby Steps is offered at one price: $295 per quarter (or $995 annually). This includes approximately 150 hours of live co-working per quarter, plus community time (less than $2 per co-working hour). I’ve intentionally priced Baby Steps to keep this amount of live access as affordable as possible and there aren’t additional discounts, tiers, or scholarship pricing for this offering.

Is this refundable?

Refunds are available within 48 hours of purchase. After that, all sales are final and nonrefundable. Because space is limited, holding a spot prevents someone else from enrolling.

Do I need to create a login somewhere?

This is a simple setup meant to be bare bones/low maintenance. No login or additional software/apps required. We use Zoom, email, and a Notion landing page. No login or additional software/apps are required.

Is this a recovery/sobriety program, or a space for emotional processing?

Baby Steps is not for emotional processing or addictions or recovery support. We’re here for camaraderie, not processing! Baby Steps is focused on co-working, creative practice, structure, motivation, and making progress on the things you want to do, and includes coaching around these topics: creativity, work, motivation, habits, transitions, and the practical and emotional challenges of showing up. It is not a space for deep emotional processing, crisis support, therapy, recovery support, or ongoing personal coaching. Things may get emotional, but these calls are designed to be light, practical, energizing, and useful, not emotionally exhausting.
